Touch / Manipulative Therapies

Indian Head Massage

Concentrates on the head, neck and shoulder area. Can help with both physical and emotional problems e.g. inability to sleep and/or relax or concentrate, problems with memory, pains in muscles and joints, stress, headaches, etc.

Massage

Helps muscles to relax, stimulating the flow of blood and helping to clear away waste products from muscle cells and reduce muscular tension and pain. Massage of the muscles can unlock the tension and release feelings that were originally repressed.

Polarity Therapy

Various techniques are used to remove blocks to the flow of life energy around the body. The therapist seeks to balance the energies, often placing the hands on different parts of the body or massaging. Stretching postures are also used, as well as fasting and dietary therapy to strengthen the body’s own resources by expelling toxins.

Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the concept in Chinese medicine that there are energy pathways running the length of the body and which come to the surface at points on the hands, head and feet. The reflexologist uses gentle pressure with the thumb and index finger, usually to pressure points on the feet, to relax tension and stimulate corresponding areas of the body. Reflexology can be used to help relieve stress and promote relaxation.

Shiatsu

Developed in Japan, shiatsu involves massage or finger pressure on particular points of the body. It might be thought of as a kind of acupuncture without needles, and a similar treatment from China is known as acupressure. Shiatsu aims to promote health by stimulating the body's healing energy.

It can be used to aid relaxation and reduce stress and tension. Shiatsu can also be learned as a self-help therapy, a more refined form of the way we might naturally rub away tensions, aches and pains.
