Art Therapy

The aim of art therapy is not to create a beautiful image or an accurate representation of an object. It is designed to enable people to express themselves in a form that bypasses verbal expression. Art therapists who use a psychoanalytic approach emphasize the importance of spontaneity. Spontaneous art can be viewed as similar to the processes of free association – it releases imagery from the unconscious which can be explored in order to understand the source of emotional problems. People may express aggression and explosive feelings which can be cathartic and healing.

Colour Therapy

This is the use of colour or coloured light for therapeutic purposes. Different colours will have a different affect on moods. The use of colour as an aid to healing is a very subtle art, and the spectrum of colours is used. It’s perhaps best used as a supplement to other forms of treatment, and used for a variety of complaints, from physical disorders to depression and anxiety states. Colour visualisation can also be used as a method of self-help.
